This strain is often used as a substitute for saffron for colouring, and is a popular ingredient in traditional dishes in Germany and the Middle East. To grow, sow the seeds outdoors in March or May for flowers from June to September, or in August or September for blooms from May to July. This hardy annual variety reaches a height of 45cm (18 inches) and is a heritage seed variety.
