Description
Marantz Cinema 70s Series 2 7.2-Channel Slimline AV Receiver with Dolby Atmos & HEOS - Silver Gold The Marantz Cinema 70s Series 2 brings a surprisingly complete home cinema experience to spaces where a full-size AV receiver simply will not fit. With its low-profile 109mm chassis, this 7.2-channel AV receiver is designed to sit neatly within modern entertainment furniture while providing the processing, connectivity and immersive audio features needed for a serious home cinema system. The Series 2 builds on the original Cinema 70s with an upgraded 32-bit 8-channel DAC, improved wireless connectivity, broader gaming compatibility and additional installation options. It supports Dolby Atmos and DTS:X, 8K video, HDMI 2.1 gaming features, HEOS multiroom streaming and optional Dirac Live room correction, while a dedicated phono input means your turntable can also become part of the system. What Makes the Cinema 70s Series 2 Different? The Cinema 70s Series 2 is aimed at listeners who want the features of a modern AV receiver without the usual bulk. At approximately half the height of many conventional AVRs, it is considerably easier to accommodate in a low media cabinet or smaller home cinema room. Inside its compact chassis is a 7-channel amplifier delivering 50W per channel, together with upgraded digital-to-analogue conversion and extensive audio and video processing. The result is an AVR that can handle everything from blockbuster movie soundtracks and immersive games to high-resolution music and vinyl. Upgraded Series 2 Digital Audio Performance One of the key changes for Series 2 is the move to an improved 32-bit 8-channel DAC. The digital-to-analogue converter plays an important role in turning digital music and movie soundtracks into the analogue audio that ultimately reaches your speakers. Combined with Marantz's careful audio tuning, the upgraded DAC is designed to deliver cleaner, more detailed and naturally balanced sound across a wide range of sources. The Cinema 70s Series 2 is not limited to surround sound either. When listening to stereo music, Pure Direct Mode bypasses unnecessary processing to provide a more direct signal path, helping you hear your music with greater clarity and less unwanted distortion. 7.2-Channel Amplification for Flexible Home Cinema With 7 channels of amplification and 50W per channel, the Cinema 70s Series 2 provides the foundation for a versatile surround system. A typical configuration can use five main speakers and two additional height channels, allowing you to create a 5.2.2 Dolby Atmos system. Alternatively, the seven amplified channels can be arranged around a conventional 7.1 speaker layout. The receiver also features a 7.2-channel architecture, giving you the flexibility to connect up to two subwoofers for more even low-frequency coverage around the listening area. Dolby Atmos for Three-Dimensional Sound Dolby Atmos takes home cinema beyond traditional left, centre, right and surround channels by adding a sense of height to the soundstage. With compatible ceiling-mounted or upward-firing speakers, effects can be positioned above the listening position. This can make scenes involving aircraft, rain, explosions or atmospheric effects feel considerably more immersive. The Cinema 70s Series 2 supports Dolby Atmos in configurations such as 5.2.2, allowing you to build an immersive system without requiring a large number of amplifier channels. DTS:X Immersive Audio The receiver also supports DTS:X, another object-based surround format designed to create a three-dimensional listening experience. Rather than restricting sounds to fixed speaker channels, DTS:X can position compatible sound effects around the room, helping create a more natural and enveloping presentation. Virtual Height Effects Without Ceiling Speakers Not every room has the space or wiring required for dedicated Dolby Atmos speakers. The Cinema 70s Series 2 addresses this with Dolby Atmos Height Virtualization and DTS Virtual:X. These technologies use processing to create the impression of greater verticality and immersion through your existing speaker arrangement. DTS Virtual:X can also provide a more enveloping presentation with 2.1, 5.1 and 7.1 speaker systems. This makes the receiver particularly useful when you want a more immersive soundstage without physically installing speakers in the ceiling. Six HDMI Inputs for Your AV Equipment The Cinema 70s Series 2 has six HDMI inputs, giving you plenty of connections for modern entertainment equipment. You can connect devices such as: 8K TVs and projectors Games consoles Blu-ray and 4K Blu-ray players Streaming devices Media players Set-top boxes The HDMI output includes eARC, allowing compatible televisions to send high-quality audio from built-in streaming apps back to the receiver over a single HDMI cable. HDMI 2.1 and 8K Video Three of the HDMI inputs and the HDMI output support the HDMI 2.1 specification. This brings support for modern high-bandwidth video signals, including 8K resolution and 4K at 120Hz. The receiver also supports HDCP 2.3, ensuring compatibility with current copy-protected 4K and 8K content. With three 8K-capable HDMI inputs and three additional 4K inputs, there is considerable flexibility when connecting a range of AV sources. Designed for Modern Gaming The Cinema 70s Series 2 is not simply designed for movies. Its updated HDMI capabilities make it particularly well suited to current games consoles and gaming PCs. It supports 4K/120Hz, allowing compatible displays and sources to deliver high frame rates at 4K resolution. Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) helps keep the display and graphics source synchronised, reducing unwanted tearing. Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) can automatically switch compatible equipment into a low-latency gaming mode, while Quick Frame Transport (QFT) helps reduce the time required to send individual frames. The Series 2 model also adds AMD FreeSync support through HDMI inputs 4-6, together with support for 1440p resolution, giving PC gamers additional options when configuring their display. Wide HDR Compatibility Modern films and games use several different HDR standards, and the Cinema 70s Series 2 is equipped to handle a broad selection. Supported formats include: Dolby Vision HDR10 HDR10+ HLG Dynamic HDR HDR10+ uses dynamic metadata to adjust the picture on a scene-by-scene basis where supported, helping compatible displays make better use of their available contrast and brightness. With support for multiple HDR formats, the receiver can sit at the centre of a modern TV or projector system without unnecessarily limiting your choice of source material. HEOS Built-In for Multiroom Music HEOS Built-in turns the Cinema 70s Series 2 into more than a home cinema receiver. It can also form part of a whole-home music system, allowing compatible HEOS products to share music across different rooms. Up to 32 HEOS devices can be configured within a system, making the platform suitable for everything from a single-room setup to a larger multiroom installation. Because HEOS is already built into the receiver, there is no need to add a separate HEOS adaptor. Stream Music Over Wi-Fi Connect the receiver to your home network using Wi-Fi or Ethernet and gain access to a broad selection of streaming and internet-based music services. The Cinema 70s Series 2 supports services and platforms including: Spotify Connect TIDAL Deezer Amazon Music TuneIn internet radio AirPlay 2 Bluetooth Subscription requirements vary between services, but the receiver gives you the connectivity needed to bring both subscription music and internet radio into your main audio system. Spotify Connect With Spotify Connect, compatible Spotify users can select the Marantz receiver directly from within the Spotify app and use their phone or tablet as a controller. The music is streamed to the receiver rather than simply mirroring the phone's audio connection, making it a convenient way to use Spotify as part of a dedicated hi-fi or home cinema setup. Apple AirPlay 2 Apple AirPlay 2 provides straightforward wireless playback from compatible Apple devices. Stream music, podcasts and other supported audio from an iPhone, iPad or Mac to the receiver. AirPlay 2 also allows compatible devices to be grouped, making the Cinema 70s Series 2 a useful part of an Apple-based multiroom setup. Bluetooth LE Connectivity The Series 2 receiver includes Bluetooth LE connectivity for wireless devices. Low-Latency Bluetooth LE Audio support is planned through a future firmware update, providing scope for the receiver's wireless capabilities to develop further as compatible features become available. Voice Control with Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri The Cinema 70s Series 2 can integrate with popular voice-control platforms, including Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant and Siri. With compatible devices and the appropriate apps or services configured, you can use voice commands for selected playback an
